Trains in Austria travel frequently so that there is little wait time at stations while travel schedules are clearly posted. One the great benefits of train travel in Austria is the remarkable vistas you see along the way. I have read in several travel magazines that some of the journeys are to be considered amongst the most beautiful train trips in the world. Sadly one of them, the trip from Bergenz to Innsbruck was taken in the rain and overcast so I could not see much in the way of mountain scenery. However that is one of the many superb trips you can take and my luck was better elsewhere in the country.

The Train to Krimml Falls

If you are going to Krimml Falls from Zell em Zee, I might recommend that you take this delightful steamtrain trip. It is slower than the bus by about 15 minutes but the views of the Alps are lovely. Trains run five times a day up and down the mountain valley. The ride takes about 90 minutes. The cars themselves are quite small and rather quaint.
