Try the banana beer (Lambic beer) or the real African beer!
You can have African meals but you will have to order them in advance.

Nightlife Spot: Groote Witte Arend

Nice and quiet pub for a drink and to socialize.
If you want to have a nice talk with some good company then this is a great place to do so.
There is a possibility to eat something.
Background music is classical.
It has a very nice inner terras where you can enjoy a drink once the weather is getting better.
It closes at 2 am the latest on Fridays and Saturdays.

t Sand

Nice Irish Pub (are there others ?!) at the square called het Zand.
In Summertime they put real white sand on the terras outdoors! Like you are sitting at the beach.
As long as there is Guinness !
Antwerp never sleeps.
So if you don't want to spend your nights in noisy dancings you can try to spend it in smokey noisy pubs '-)

Stadswaag
You will find different pubs where you can have a nice drink during the day or during the evening.
This one is called Het Waagstuk.
It is famous for it's huge variety of Geuze and Lambic beer.
Very nicely renewed area.
Nice brand of Lambic beer

Nightlife Spot: Quinten Matsys

Oldest pub in Antwerp.
Has sometimes life piano music.
Guided walks ending in the pub with a cake and coffee are possible.
There is a wooden pub game which is over 100 year old.

Nightlife Spot: Celtic Ireland

There is a nice restaurant upstairs and in the pub you can enjoy snacks and small meals.
Nice atmosphere.
Pity about the huge amount of tobacco smoke inside.
Sometimes (if announced) life music.

Nightlife Spot: Elfde Gebod

Packed with plaster figures of saints and madonna's, it looks more like a museum then a pub.
Very nice to have a drink inside.
The list of available beers is not as big as on other places and they are a bit more expensive.
Nevertheless an extravagant place!

Don't miss to check what there is going on at the Zuiderpershuis.

It has a concert hall, a very nice pub (on the picture) and a very nice innercourt where you can have some drinks when the weather permits.
Multicultural.
When they invite people from all over the world, they will try to give them the same accomodation as they have at home, they will make it as much as possible to let them feel at home.
Even if this means they have to put sand on the floor and put tents up inside!

Nightlife Spot: Elfde Gebod, Torfburg

Great place with a huge saint's statue collection, but a bit less varied beer collection.
But it is worth a pitstop to have a drink as we did!
That is what we Helga (Helga67) and Chiara (Pollon) did the 27th September 2002 on our minimeeting!

Nightlife Spot: Metropolis

Just outside Antwerp you will find the worlds 2nd biggest movie theatre complex Metropolis. In capacity it is only beated by a similar movie complex in Spain.
Online ticket reservation possible.
Special twin seats at the back available for romantic movie visit. This is at extra cost but you get a softdrink and popcorn with it, and you can get those without queueing if you walk the red carpet line. (the personal will explain what it is). Be careful however if you have other intentions then watching the movie... for those who like to hide in the upper corner: at one corner there is a hidden door where the technician will check the sound. You will not hear him, you will not see him, but he sure can see you!
Just a little warning for those who might become too romantic and can't wait till the movie is over! `-)

Directions: Outside the city centre reachable with all busses starting with number 7 departing from the Roosevelt plaats.
Best ask if it stops in front of the complex, or you might have to walk back a bit.
