We got sheep! `-) Pré-salé

Recently they started to keep sheep here again. On the picture you can see them gathering together high and dry to catch the first sun of today.

But once in a day they are left running lose through the fields below when the river is at low tide. Those fields are under water when it is high tide. The river Schelde has a difference of quite some meters between low and high tide and when the last happens, it is actually the high tide of the sea (Northsea) that pushes up the salt water into the river and this salt water mixes with the sweet one and creates a very interesting habitat for certain plants and breeding birds, but also for our sheeps.

They say that the kind of gras they eat there is special one that is a bit salty and that you can taste it in the meat. I cannot tell you if this is true, these pré-salé cattle is rather expensive, so not accordingly to my budget.

Today, in Spring, you could see many lamb amongst them. Now I was sad I only brought my little camera and not the bigger one. With this one I cannot zoom properly and somehow when I tried to come closer, one sheep was suspicious and started to run and then the whole group started to run... I guess that is sheepish eh? :)
