Namur Travel Guide: 189 reviews and 490 photos
Just about 60 km southeast of Brussels lies Namur.
It is not that industrial as is for instance Charleroi.
Namur is the capital city of Wallonia.
Many cities have suffered of invading armies and Namur is certainly not an exception. From the 16th century till 1978 when the army finally moved out, Namur was a military town. That is because of it's strategical situation at the junction of the rivers Sambre and Meuse.
The citadel, a fortified military construction is what is left over of that long military period and is now a touristic attraction.
From the top where this citadel is built, you have a magnificient view on the city below, in the valley.
Typical of Namur of the little squares and innergardens.
From above you can view it's old churches and the typical French style of lot of the houses in the old city.
Visit the travelogues to view more photos of the city.
Namur also has it's University : l'Université Notre dame de la Paix (FUNDP).
AAAAHHHH !!! been there again past Sunday 23rd of June for a brief visit. Pity because I sure wanted to stay longer! That weekend was the "weekend des arts" and there were podia and groups and happenings all over the place! :-( and I couldn't stay because I was on my way to Han!
But I will soon update this page with the pictures of my morning visit!
I was there on this occasion with our Karibu group and I tried to count the different nationalities of the 48 people I went with: I counted about 20 different nationalities and at least 4 continents!
Lovely such a colourful group!
Let me see which ones I can recall... Belgian (hahaha that's me), Polish, Bulgarian, Roemanian, Slovenian, Oekranian, Serbian, Russian, Madagascar, Brazilian, Columbian, Indian, Chinese, Iranian, Egyptian, Syria (?), Swedish, Spanish, LOL am missing a few !
Pls come back again soon!
