Zurenborg

At 5 minutes walk from the station Antwerpen Berchem you will find the area of Zurenborg.
It is known for the remarkable streets with the different styles of buildings but especially for the Art Nouveau houses in that area.
It is worth to strol down the streets and watch the fronts etc.

What streets to walk through?

Most famous of all is the Cogels Osylei, the Tansvaal straat but don't forget the side streets!
Do go look to the crossroad that is called The Four Seasons!

Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, New Art...
it covers all the same kind of art movement from late 19th century upto about first decennia of the 20th century, until it got "replaced"by the more rigid Art Deco Style, Although it is used in different kinds of arts: architecture, fournishing, posters, paintings...
Still in all these different area's of styles same topics will be recognizable:
the curls, the flowers, the iron, the integration into the whole picture, the ladies (preferable at least half naked).

More to discover

If you walk down the Cogels Osylei, pass under the bridge of the railroad and walk a little further you will end up at the square called Dageraad Plaats, you will find there several pubs and good restaurants.
De Hoorn des Overvloeds is for instance famous for its vegetarian dishes.
In Summertime this place is one of the places to be that is outside the centre of Antwerp. Reachable by train or tram 11.

In Berlijn en Praag vond ik de architectuur schitterend, maar Zurenborg blijft inderdaad ook de moeite waard ! leuke pagina's !!

Yes, Zurenborg is full of real jewels of facades! I used to visit Pieter Porter's house during his Christmas expo in Cogels-Osylei...your photos capture the beauty of this area very well! This is the splendour of 19th cent. Antwerp!

Mooie voorstelling van Zurenborg. Een plek die ik in mijn hard draag als ex-bewoner en waar ik in mijn jeugd veel vertoefde ( in de kroegen) Hopelijk een jaar met vele leuke reizen.
