Back in time I was travelling a lot through, at that time, "Western Europe", during my vacation times. This included by car, airplane, train and, not to forget by hitchhiking.
This type of travel was mainly cultural oriented - musees, historic sites - besides some visiting of natural monuments as well.
Restarting this in a more relaxed way , I am now visiting sites again, that I met during my business trips.

Since a few years I am travelling all over the world now for business reasons. Still the main sites are euro-centric with few exceptions in other countries.
As most main business is located in cities and not on countryside, the main targets here are large cities - in some sense all with a lot of similarities and not always representative for their countries.

In less populated countries, like e.g. Brazil, some eastern and African countries, as well as some areas of the United States, cities and metropoles are not really reflecting the reallities of the daily life of the majority.
In western and central Europe, you find the cultural, historic sites very often concentrated in and around cities, but you miss a lot of identity of a country, if you cant leave the masses behind you.
Thus, my knowledges and experiences are very limited.

The best way to get deeper insights into the way of life in foreign countries and in local events and valuable "monuments", is to have somebody on site, who can give you more intense feeling.

I do not want to miss here to mention and thank my friends all over the world, who took the time, to show me their own view of their countries and cities. These friends, met as collegues and friends, met on the internet and on site as well, are the most valuable treasure.
