Sommer is my best friend from HS days and somehow, we'd never been on a travel adventure together. So we decided to rectify the situation by going to Ireland. We had one week, a rental car, 3 travel guides (Lonely Planet, the Eyewitness guide, and a driving tour book), a map given to us by Avis, and a lot of ground to cover.
Our main interest was to see nature - so we knew we wanted to to head to the south west coast and skip most of the cities. |
| | This was our actual trip: Day 1 Arrive Dublin Get caught in traffic jam in Kildare on the N8. Tour of Rock of Cashel. Stay in Cahir
Day 2 Tour Blarney Castle (tourist trap, but Sommer wanted to go). Shop in Blarney Woolen Mills. Stay in Skull. Ate awesome seafood chowder!
Day 3 Tour Mizen Head and Glengariff. Drive through Moll's gap and Killarny National Forest. Stay in Kilorglin.
Day 4 Tour Dingle Peninsula including Inch beach, Slea Head, and the Blasket Island Center in Dunquin. Eat Lunch in Dingle. Stay in Kilrush at a really nice B+B called Dolphins Pass.
Day 5 Tour Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Caves, and the Burren. Stay in Galway where we went shopping in the old town.
Day 6 Tour Connemera including the Lough I. valley, the Roundstone bog, and the Sky Road in Clifden. Stay in Athlone.
Day 7 Tour and hike in Glendalough and Wicklow National Park. Drive through Dublin. Stay in Swords (near airport)
Day 8 Get up at 4:45 am and drive to airport. |
