  • Tip Rating:
  • Luggage And Bags: Leave some room in your bag to take back a bag of gummi bears (not just bears, but all kinds of yummy shapes and flavors). As far as I know, there are locations in Frankfurt a.M. (see my Frankfurt page for directions) and Wiesbaden.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring layers! My first trip to Germany was in the summer, and so I thought I wouldn't need warm clothes; wrong!! At the moment (July 6, 2001) it is extremely hot out, but last July felt more like November and I was wearing my winter coat.

Toiletries & Medical Supplies: If you wear contacts, note that contact solution is not available at grocery stores. You have to get it from an optical store, and it is pretty expensive. Non-presription medicine is also not found at grocery stores. You'll have to ask for what you need at a Pharmacy (look for the big red A sign outside). Shampoo, deo, toothpaste, etc. can be found in grocery stores.

Yes, visiting castles is really a nice thing to do around here. I went to the Karlsruhe VT meeting that Bernd mentioned. There'll be another one at Schwetzingen (near Mannheim) in the spring.

Yes gummi bears are a good reason to visit Germany ;-) I'm addicted too. But from your tips I see that you found some more good reasons as well. BTW have you ever visited Karlsruhe? We have a VT-meeting on Feb 6 here. Feel free to join us.
