Puerto Egas - Black lava coastline |
The week that I was in the Galapagos was one of the most exciting weeks of my life! I can really recommend it. At the time I went, it cost me about $800 all inclusive (plane, food, travel on a top of a small boat - where despite the cloudy skies, I got the best tan of my life). I was travelling with a group of AFS exchange students, including a japanese girl who took a picture of nearly every tree, rock, animal, etc. in sight. I think she took 30 rolls! I kept my picture taking to two rolls, but it was hard. There are just so many amazing photo oportunities. Here is one of them (at Puerto Egas on Santiago Island). For additional animal pictures, see the travelogue.
It is not a cheap destination - even the entrance fee will knock your socks off - at $100 for foreign tourists (students and foreign residents can usually get a discount). But is is worth it if you like to see animals up close and personal (the animals have no no natural predators, and therefore no fear).
