Early 1900 - some explorers found in the caves of Zhoukoudian - near Peking the bones of a human being - living about 500.000 years ago.They called their discovery " The Peking man"
The Capital of this country has a lot to offer - historical and cultural.
Like the great Wall - the many palaces and musea !
The "Summer Palace - Yi he Yum" 11km to the north of beijng - a must to see in Beijing.
Residence of the Emperors in summertime - the basic palace was constructed in the 12th century - but often rebuilded or even plundered by the French or English troups.
The most famous inhabitant was lady Emperor Ci Xi who gave the orders to built the Marmor Boat !
Anyhow the gardens - the pavillions are beautiful.
A trip on the Kunning Lake is less spectacular due to the fog !

Nice Pics about Beijing....I would love to visit it! There's a beautiful song of Katie Melua that starts "There are nine million bycicles in Beijing" (as you say in your introduction).
The way of capturing the details in your pictures is really amazing. I also enjoyed the tips which brought back nice memories.

What a fantastic experience it must have been to visit China in those 'early' days of it's re-opening to the world! Excellent tips on the many attractions! Exploring the Great Wall is a must, but 6000-km is quite a hike!!
Getting a tourist free picture can sometimes be a hard job and a real challenge! Good page!
We share many common memories of Beijing. Also, the challenges we amateur photographers face. I also stayed at the Beijing International Hotel. My only tip so far, need to get back to work on my Beijing page! lol!
