First sentence of the Koran ""Allah...

Morroco, located in the NW of Africa, counts three mayor cities.
-Casablanca as an economical pivot table
-Rabat as the Capital and seat of the government
-And .. Fès finaly as intellectual and artisan headquarter of Morocco.
Even more .. Morocco counts 4 imperial cities: Rabat, Marrakesh, Fès and Mehnès.
Fès is the oldest one
Once you find your way in the many narrow streets of the Fès Medina you have to visit the El Attarina medresse, a highlight of combined architecture of wood and marble.
It is here that i was fascinated by the "zellij" sculptures of Koran verses

From the right to the left
"Allah, thanks for saving me today once again against Satan"
The University of Fez ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

Give water to the people ...

In many corners and public streets you will see this well decorated waterfountains, used for many reasons like daily water supply (local woman on the left - having some waterfun (local children in the middle), cleaning shoes by a professional shoemaker (right).

Medina - the oldest part in Fès

Very narrow streets, many shops, no cars allowed - only locals, tourists and mules and donkies
(who is who?) because this is the only way of transport in the oldest part of the city. And be aware - they have the first right ! The mules i mean.

Great stuff here Luc! The Blue Gate is very impressive indeed and the 'azulejo' tiles both here and at the many fountains are so distinctive! Wow, that sounds and looks like a fancy spot where you were staying!

Luc, fantastic page. It helps to freshen up my 30 years old memory of Fez from my pre-pre time of VT with only one picture, LOL ! It's really time for a revisit !

An excellent page on Fes with superb photos. You have well captured the spirit of the old town. I like especially the photo across a grid, in your introduction !

A real treat for me Luc (excuse me, BoBo).as I have never heard of this place, but it is beautiful. The important question is how is your sweet little Sam doing?
