De Coster and his legendary Tyl

Due to it's rich history and many things worth seeing, Damme is nowadays a popular touristic center. Popular, but fortunately not too crowdy. Till far over our borders, Damme is renowned for it's cuisine and since a few years it is also known as a place where you can buy lots of old (and new) books.
Charles De Coster - born in Munich in 1827, was a pioneer in the french/belgian literature by the Legend of Tyl Uylenspieghel and his friend "Lamme Goedzak" written in
1868 and translated in many countries ! He died in Brussels in 1879 as a rather unknown "ecrivain"
Damme itself is a nice small town near Brugge in the West Flanders fields - Perfect for relaxing - walking or biking tours you can rent localy !

The most famous view on Damme !
Just look for this place near Brugge -rent a bike and go for "Flanders Fields" ! It is most relaxing and the landscape is super !

"Onze Lieve Vrouwe Church ! "Delporte himself has already a museum in Damme.
