You have to taste it ..(pics in the museum)

You have to taste it...to experience it. Or how milk changes into cheese, yoghourt etc.
Tastes are different, times are changing ..but the "Oude Kaasmakerij" has always succeeded in keeping its rich heritage alive. Not only thanks to its respect for craftmanship and its love for flavour, but also thanks to a constant drive for innovation.

Cheese and a good local beer

Taste the different cheeses, make the circle around, start with a taste of the local "Passendale", nip at your glass of Passendale beer, take a piece of Chevagne (Goat), nip at your glass again, no smoking allowed, taste a piece of "Wijnendale", nip again and at last, have a piece of "Oud Brugge"
Just delicious, and if your glass of Passendale beer is empty, ask for a glass of water to neutralize the different tastes

The battle of Passendale

Passendale is known for an other event aswell.
A tragedy, the battle of Passendale during the first world war.
Ieper and the surrounding area were defended by the British Empire against the German invasion, a lot of soldiers died here.
(A picture i made in the museum of "Flanders Field" in Ieper/Ypers

Luc, a very interesting page! I had only heard of Passendale due to the many Canadian troops killed there in WWI. Your cheese and beer tips are great. That reminds me, I have a garlic Havarti upstairs to go with my Argentinian wine!
