Visiting Waterloo by air

Visiting Waterloo

The ruins of Waterloo Abbey
Waterloo-a small city in Brabant-Wallon. Strolling through this town and it’s mainstreet is a joy for the eye but not for yr credit cards. Nice but expensive shops and galleries.
The idea that this town is symbolising the battle of 1815 – a war between the french (Napoleon) and allied armies of England (Wellington) and Prussia (Blücher) is in fact a little tourist misunderstanding or trap.
“The Lion hill”-symbol of Waterloo is a remembrance of the Dutch king Willem to his wounded son – also called Willem and Prince of Orange.
The hill is artificial and result of hard labour by women – obliged to carry the sand to the top.
The Ruins

The abbey

I never heard about this abbey - maybe they made some kind of abbey beer here - have to ask Irisbe !!

Wow, Luc, that looks like a lot of fun - just hanging there in the air high above!! I can't believe how lush Waterloo looks with all that green so far below! Great pics of the abbey ruins too.

You haven't seen the Abby before, i haven't seen it though I have been to Waterloo... May be it may be seen only from the air? ha-ha! You are a courage man, Luc! You reminded me that I should make a Waterloo page of my own one day!

Too bad for Napoleon that he didn't have some small planes like that for reconnaissance in 1815, maybe the outcome of the battle would have been different.
