An extention of a Verona journey

by Luchonda - last update: Jun 17, 2006

Garda, the Lake to be in Italy

The Garda Lake in Northern Italy - 150 meters deep - and to get around - some 110 km's
A romantic place to be visited in Italy, some excellent spots to be visited :
- Sirmione
- Garda itself
- Malcesine, Monte baldo and it's cableway
- Barbarona
- The Isola del Gardia ( a private island and a place of tranquillity and meditation)
And this all between Verona and Brescia
The Borghese private island

Isola del Garda

Isola del Garda is a place of rare beauty, bursting with history, memories and legends. A treasure surrounded by the clear waters of the lake.
A picturesque rock has welcomed ancient people from the Romans to the Longobards. Once the home of St-Francis and most probably of the great poet Dante( 1300)
The early 20th century villa was builded in Neo-Gothic-Venetian style.
The gardens and many terraces, sloping down to the lake itself are unique.Everywhere you will find yourself surrounded by the exuberant and undisturbed vegetation, native and exotic plants, rare scents and unique flowers

The Borghese Cavazza island

The Borghese family opens its treasures for guided but limited tours.
Arrive there, by a local taxi-boat and enjoy this place of rare and special beauty - all in the middle of a top touristic place. But on this island you will breath nature (woods made up of pine and cypress trees, acacias, magnolias and agaves)
And as top of the bill, get some lessons in painting, painting of nature like it is. Just beautiful and so relaxing.
At the end of the day, the owners will offer you a tasting of local products,
(olive oil spankled bread, local wines, cheese)
The castle - once a home for monks

Pros:"Perfect if you find the non touristic places"
Cons:"The lake is impressive, but the weather...."
In A Nutshell:"A place to be in Europe/Italy"

Luc, lovely little page with gorgeous photos of the famous Lago di Garda. It looks like your boat couldn't keep the Hotel tower in the vertical line. *winkygrin*
