  • Visiting the narrow streets in Venice - looking at bridges and more than 60 Churches on the Islands !!
I do not have to consider the time you need to visit the Islands - but it can take more than a few days to have seen the "Doge City" completely !

  • The most famous bridge in Venice ! The "Rialto Bridge"
Venezia is mainly divided in two parts by the Canal Grande (4KM).
Only 3 bridges are connecting the two parts :
    -The Rialto Bridge
    -The Degli Scatzi
    - and the bridge called Accademia

  • View from the top of the bridge - the place in Venice you can not avoid to take a picture of the Canals and Gondolas !
The bridge - previous a wooden construction -
    is now a shopping center.
A central road where the shops are located - flanked by two side paths to ensure a flexible passing. But the tourists have another opinion.

  • The famous bridge - Gondolas as local taxi.
Later on - we were witness of a local protest against the "Community of Venice"

  • The previous Rialto bridge was a wooden construction and called "Della Moneto".
This icon of Venice is now made of stone
and reconstructed in 1592, crossing the Canal Grande at it's most narrow point, 28meter and 7,5 meter above the canal itself.

  • One of the three bridges crossing the Grand Canal.
This bridge is in fact not that old. It was builded in 1934 as a temporary replacement of the previous metall bridge.
Near this bridge you will find the Palazzo Cavali Franchetti

  • Campanile (El paron de casa - like the locals call it ) is simply one the most popular touristic spots in Venice !
The height is about 100M - you can climb to the top - a view from here must be worthed the income fee. But you need time and patience to enter.

  • The Campanile or Bell Tower.
An elevator will bring you to the top and an excellent overview on Venice, the lagunes and even the Alpes is awaiting you.
People say that on this tower the famous Galileo tested his telescope for the first time.

  • The only place in Venice called Piazza.
It is THE highlight of Venice but didn't attrack me that much. The Basilica is a top attraction, but the place itself is so overcrowded and the pigeons, fed by the tourists by the obligated food (one euro a package) is so disturbing and unhealty.
As a Belgian tourist, known as beer lover, it is a pitty that local beers are sold for about 10 euro a pint. In the surrounding galeries (builded on order of Napoleon) the prices are extremely high.

Luc I love Venice, it was a pity we were there for only two nights, and one day at Burano Island. Next time we will stay longer. Your Venice page is great.

The self service restaurant called Chat Qui Rit is worth a visit to see just how rude the cashier and manager can be. They are unbelieveable.

I'm going back to Venice in March and I can't wait! But I think I'll skip your idea of going up in a balloon, and I'm afraid, the 1000 $ glass figurines will have to stay in the shop.
