Verona " Gateway to Italy"

by Luchonda - last update: Jun 21, 2006

Verona, the most beautiful/ Italian ancient city

Verona, by day/night
Sunset on the Basilica di S.Zeno - and i was just there - on time - telepathy or guided by an Italian lady?
The Basilica of San Zeno Maggiore ranks with the Amphitheatre as one of Verona's most important monuments and is considered as one of the great achievements of Romanesque architecture
Piazza S.Zeno with the Basilca itself, the campanile and the Belfry will take some hours of your attention in Verona.
Verona : its beauty is essentially two- folded.
First : the richness in natural beauty with the rivers, the hills, the nearby Lake Garda and the background of mountains.
Secondly : the great architecture of the city itself with its buildings and monuments and not to forget, the welcoming charm of the local people.
The origin of Verona is lost in the mists of time: it is not even known how the city came by its name. But today Verona is , next to it's industrial character, a highlight of cultural Italian history.
In a few words : Indeed a Gateway to Italy, a gateway to history
Cherish this part of Italy

Cherish this beautiful part of Italy

Cherish this beautiful part of northern Italy, enjoy the sympathy of the people, enrich yourself with the local historical monuments and cities, like Bergamo and Vincenza
Don't miss the local food - and especially taste the perfect wines.
Tip : A combination of grappa/Cherish will make your day, believe me.

Piazza Bra

Most famous place to enjoy musical culture in Europe.
The amphitheatre of Verona served as a theatre for gladiatorial games, races and other spectacular events - nowadays - from 1913 in fact - the arena is the regular setting for splendid operatic performances.

Luc, fantastic page with brilliant photos. I quite like the lamppost shot. I was briefly in Verona for last years Euro VT meeting, but didn't see that much of the city.

I'm in the early stages of planning a trip to Italy and Slovenia next year. Your tips are a great help.

Glad you and Caruso enjoyed performing at the arena! I might have a chance to go to Verona in August, if everything works out as planned.
