Etosha National Park - in the north of Namibia

by Luchonda - last update: Aug 12, 2006

The entrance to the Park

The entrance
Namibia lies in the South West of Africa, just above South Africa and below Angola. To the east is Botswana and to the west is the Atlantic Ocean. Namibia is a sparsely populated country full of wide-open spaces including the spectacular Namib Desert and the bleak Skeleton Coast. Namibia is also rich in wildlife and has the magnificent Etosha National Park - one of Africa's best game reserves. The word ''etosha'' means place of dry water or, according to other sources, huge, white area.
The entrance - one of them to a fascinating world of nature !
Once behind this point - respect the rules of the Park ! Never leave the car is one of them !

Etosha Park

The Etosha National Park has a good infrastructure. Well-maintained gravel roads (untarred) lead to the waterholes, where game viewing is at its best. In the three restcamps Okaukuejo, Halali and Namutoni, hotels, chalets and camping sites are available as well as restaurants, stores and swimming pools. I visited the Halali restcamp - an experience with a water hole you can visit day and night. It gives you the opportunity to watch animals during the night - avoiding the heath during the day

Etosha Park

The mystery of the "Barcode"
There is a lot of speculation on the question - why do zebras have black/white stripes on their skin.
- To protect them in the wilderness ?
- Regulator of the body heath?
- A family sign?
