  • Parque central - a place to be and milestone for many other directions in Habana
You will be impressed by the statue of José Marti (1905) - you will enjoy a relax stop on one of the marble seats and just have a look at the many people visiting this place
It is also the place to get a local Taxi ( max price to different places in Habana is 4Us dollars for one taxi)

  • In many cities all over the world you will find
a "China Town" - so why not in Habana.
About 300 chinese families stayed in this Capital after the famous revolution.
The location is near El Capitolio - Calle Cuchillo.
In the 19th century about 130.000 Chinese people lived here - mostly males ( read slaves) coming from the chinese province "Guangdong" to work on sugar crane fields.
TIP Visit a few shops or restaurants like Restaurant "Pacifico
The best restaurant should be Pavo Real - in Vedado - the place we visited by mountain biking

  • Edificio Bacardi (1930) or The Bacardi Building ( actually a Bank) is a symbol of the richness of this famous rum producer who was obliged to leave Cuba after the revolution
It is a building in art deco design - beautiful tiles with half naked nymphs. You can visit the patio in the inner building

  • Dark and white - just the way a Cuban Rum (Ron) is presented. Old and recent - just the way it is - a national drink - next to Havana Club - Bacardi and Ron's preserved in several ages and called Silver dry/ Carta Blanca/ Carto oro and Anjeno.
The purchase prices are different - from 3 upto 20 american dollars depending on the age.
The history of the rum goes back to the 1500s when the distillation production was first obtained by sugarcane products.
The mixed drink of Rum and Cola dates from the american influence during the independacy war and was called "Cuba Libré" - maybe now the americans regret it !!
The price for the locals in "Bodega" markets is cheap and almost available (20 pesos a bottle ) - A gouvernment drug ??

  • Famous second hand book market near the Castillo the la real Fuerza
Only since the late 1990ties this market was officially allowed as a trading place for books-portraits and other literature - mostly of authors from the revolution period.
Local people are dressed in tradtional clothes - asking for ONE dollar if a tourist wants to picture them.
