A weekend trip to Berlin | World rulers decided about EU future, this in 1945 |
Discovering Berlin, the rapidly changing metropolis with an international reputation for its festivals, vibrant nightlife, contemporary architecture and avant-garde arts I went there with my daughter, just the two of us, and this was a long time ago we travelled together (Egypt and Turkey) First time i visited Berlin was many years ago (school trip in the sixtees), the famous wall, separating east and west was already erected, so i'm wondering how my evaluation of this new Berlin, capital of a new Germany within a free Europe will be Our wish list on our discovery tour : - Brandenburger Gate (the symbol and only remaining city gate of Berlin)(Y) - Ku-damm ( Kurfürstendamm, Berlin (Charlottenburg)(Next time) - In good weather conditions : Berlin Tiergarten and Zoo (Y) - Schloss Charlottenburg (Next time) - Kaiser Wilhelm - memorial church (Y) - Shopping in KaDeWe (kind of Harrods/London) for my grandchild Sam (Y) - Unter den Linden (previous DDR district) till the jewish museum (P) an extraordinary architectural building. (Y) - Check point Charlie and it's museum (Y) Mission almost completed, but i and Kim need a second round, this city is so impressing and has to offer more than we expected. |
| | Berlin, a city of musicals/films and Love Parades The top 4 business, a 5star hotel in Berlin, "Intercontinental", in short and for the locals- just Interconti, has a famous "Marlene" Bar, it impressed me so much in going back into time. This "Diva" was a legend and wrote history. Therefore i used my camera as much as possible untill the moment a waitress asked me if i got a permission to do this. Sorry - no - but the next morning ... I can imagine that in a short time from now, new "Theme Bars" will be coming alive. For more MD pictures as a remembrance at this Interconti Bar - see my pages on Berlin. |
Architectual renewal after the second WW Berlin, bombed down for more than 90% in 1945 - as Capitol of the 3rd Reich, was rebuilded in a short time after the second WW. And since the german decision to install this city again as Capital (previously it was Bonn) this place in Germany reborned in many aspects (architectural and cultural wise)- As last witness, the soccer championship in 2006, as future witness a lot of cultural musical events The result and it's importance in renovation of cultural, political and industrial new ideas is attracting and so inviting to visit this city again, and again. In short : Next to Barcelona, Prague and of course Ghent (in Belgium, East Flanders) a 4th Highlight in Europe - no longer a fantasy. | | | The new library, near the Reichstag, ex east site |
