Known for Oktoberfest and Hitler's rise to power. One of the best ways to see Munich is using the Strassenbahn(street car). Just get on and ride around. Remember to pay again if you start back in the other direction. Your ticket is good as long as you are heading in the same general direction even if you change street cars or switch to a bus. The Deutesches Museum (<A HREF="http://www.deutsches-museum.de/e_index.htm">Deutsches Museum Link</A>) is one of my favorites in the world. It is a technical museum and has amazing and fun exhibits. More fun than the Smithsonian. The museum is divided up into several sections and each is fascinating. Plan a whole day, I have been there at least five times and have never seen it all. Part of the exhibit is mining techniques. You start several stories below ground in a simulated cave man mine. As you travel through the tunnels, you are shown more and more modern techniques until you emerge above ground in a modern mining operation. The picture is of a barge used in the mines to transport ore. The exhibits are designed to react when you push a button or move a lever. In the hydrology area, various dams, pumps, and locks operate when the visitor starts the action. There are shows throughout the day also. The electrical display is very entertaining and educational. Huge spark generators and electric arcs. There is a very good cafeteria in the museum and the obligatory souvenir shop. Bring good walking shoes. There is a foot massage machine on the 3rd or 4th floor and I kept feeding it phennings all day. The museum has a wonderful miniature railroad display and show also. There are all manner of planes, locomotives, cars, computers, machinery, boats, and a complete submarine (U-Boat) with the hull cut away. Check the link for things I am forgetting to mention like the glass making, chemistry experiments, timekeeping, etc. etc. If you miss the Deutches you will not know what you have missed. You can drink German beer anywhere but you can only see the Deutches in Munich on the banks of the Iver River
