Under Construction...

Traveling in israel, Is it safe?

Well first, i want to clearify the next point. the chance to an average israeli jewish citizen (who isn't living in the settelments) to be killed in a CAR ACCIDENT are greater than being murdered by a palestinian terrorist.
Fourthermore, it should be obvious that if you are not an israeli citizen, your chances to be targeted by a terrorist are much lower than the average israeli.
Thus, you should be paying more attention not to be hit by a car, than to be murdered by a terrorist.
But still, you probably think, that you see all these awful pictures in the TV, and still normal israeli citizen are being murdered in massive terrorist attacks that preformed by sueside bombers in croweded places without distinguishing the origin of the victims.
you are right about that, but as i said before, you have a bigger change to be killed in a car accident than in such an attack.
And still you can also minimize that chance, by taking simple precautions:
A) do not get to the area that is being governed by the palestinian authority. neither to those which are goverened by both parties (israeli&palestinian -named as "area B"). if you want to expiriance the arabic culture, you can visit in the israeli arabic villages in the Galil/Carmel(in the north), and/or the beduin villages in the Negev (which is the southern desert).
B) try also to keep off the israeli settelments area.
C) try to keep off crowded places (a 200-300 meters is far enough).
D) if you are not on a budget trip, try to keep off public buses - special care should be given to the city-crowded-public-buses. if you are in the city you can use the minivan-public-taxis, which are as chip as buses, and smaller -> much less crowded. if you can rent a car, or you are in a tourist bus, it is the safest option. E) try not to hitch-hike ( or give hitch-hikes if you rent a car).
I think camels are the safest trasportation availablable *Kidding* ;)
That's it by now. You really shouldn't be afraid of coming here.
Have Fun, Yuval. |
