It has always been a crossing point in the Silk Road, and there are many ruins of those times (Gaochang, Bizaklik Caves, Jiaohe...).<BR>

 Very helpful and informative tips with pics. I was supposed to be going in August, but sponsorship dried up so will doing my garden per usual instead. Pity 'cos I loved my stay in KaraKol across the border in '91. Thx for sharing.Tim
