Empire State Building: The Empire State Building
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: In spite of the Twin Towers, this is The Building of Manhattan. For me is, without doubt, the most charming skycrapper ever built.

The building has created a Language of Lights that has its own grammar:

This is the standard annual lighting schedule with the related events:
Red, Black & Green: Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Green: St. Patrick's Day, March of Dimes, Rainforest Awareness,
    Earth Day
Red, White & Blue: Presidents' Day, Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans' Day
Red: St. Valentine's Day, Fire Department Memorial Day, Big Apple Circus
Red & Blue: Equal Parents Day / Childrens Rights
Yellow & White: Spring / Easter Week
Blue, White & Blue: Israel Independence Day, First Night of Chanukah
Blue: Police Memorial Day, Child Abuse Prevention
    Purple & White: Alzheimer's Awareness
Red, Yellow & Green: Portugal Day
Lavender & White: Stonewall Anniversary / Gay Pride
Purple, Teal, White: National Osteoporosis Society
Red & White: Pulaski Day, Red Cross
Red, White & Green: Columbus Day
Blue & White: Greek Independence Day, United Nations Day
    Red & Yellow: Autumn
Black, Yellow & Red: German Reunification Day
Pink & White: 'Race for the Cure' / Breast Cancer Awareness
Green, White & Orange: India Independence Day
    Red & Green: Holiday Season
Dark / No Lights: 'Day without Art / Night without Lights', AIDS Awareness

    General Tips: Look up!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Though most of NY life is down at the street, the best of its arquitechture is upstairs, where only doves and some helicopters can reach. So if you can't afford having a helicopter ride, LOOK UP all the time (watch the traffic lights too!!)

    Central Park: Central Park
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: You can walk into Central Park and it comes a moment when you see absolutely NO BUILDINGS, only trees, rivers and birds (don't do it at night, please!) This is what most amazes me about Central Park. You can be surrounded by skycrappers and 10 minutes later all surrouded by woods.
In the photo you can see the skating playground in winter.

CP goes from 59th Street to 110th Street and half a mile from Fifth Avenue to Eighth Avenue and was the first urban landscaped park in the United States. Originally conceived in the salons of wealthy New Yorkers in the early 1850's, the park project spanned more than a decade and cost the city ten million dollars.
You can find inside numerous restaurants, playgrounds, the Metropolitan Museum, the Central Park Zoo, and Wollman Rink.

    Chinatown: Chinatown
  • Tip Rating:
  • Favorite Thing: Travel to China without leaving Manhattan!! Eat real chinese food (don't ask what are you eating, is better that way), buy 'real' Rolex®' watches, read fortune's cookies, practice Tai-Chi (early in the morning)...

You can start at Canal Street, just below 'Little Italy'.
