VanVieng

This small village in between Vientiane and Luang Phabang is a good basecamp for some adventure travel and outdoor sports. There are several travel companies here organizing hikings, trekking, river descending in truck tires...
The mountanious landscapes around are really impressive, with those huge green mountains that reminded me somehow those of Guilin in China.
I didn't stay there, just passed by with the bus, the same one that joins Vientiane and Luang Phabang, that stops there for a few minutes.

Luang Phabang

Luang Phabang (also called Luang Prabang) is probably the most interesting city in laos. Former royal capital, this city is located in the upper middle of the country, by the shore of the Mekong River. Here you will find many many temples, buddhist monks, beautiful landscapes, jungle, former Lao palaces... and a very relaxed atmosphere that invites to stay a bit longer...

Vientiane

Vientiane is Laos' capital town.
Nevertheless is a rather quiet and relaxed city, wiyh many temples and interesting things to see. In the city centre everything is within walking distance, and the streets are small, tree-lined.
The Mekong river pases by, but there is no harbour in town, the only one is the "Friendship Bridge", some 40 kms out of town, at the Thai border.
