Recently famous for being the natural scenery of the film "Captain Corelli's Mandoline" (with Nicholas Cage and Penelope Cruz), Cefallonia is one of the main Ionic islands of Greece, located westernmost, at the left of the Peloponese peninsule.
Visited mostly by locals during summer holidays, is a rather green spot with many idillic spots for hiking and swimming. |
| | Mellisani Caves near Sami I visited it from Ithaka, mainly to see the Mellisani Caves, a subterranean lake whose ceiling collapsed partially, leaving a big hole through which the noon sun illuminates its turquoise waters. |
A Green Island I didn't stay long enough here, but crossed the island from Sami to Argostoli (east to west) and saw many beautiful green landscapes in a landscape similar to that in the italian Tuscany. | | |
