My private Africa

by SirRichard - last update: May 24, 2004

My experiences in Africa

Africa is a huge continent, full of wonders, colors, life, marvellous as life, but also terrible as life. Africa can be very extreme, you can find there incredible sunsets and unbelievable massacres, humid jungles and arid deserts, forgotten cultures or empires and highly undeveloped countries...

Maybe that's why this vaste continent is so touristically undeveloped. Apart from some spots along the coasts (Morocco, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa), the majority of the place is generally unknown to tourists.
La Menara, Marrakesh, Morocco

Differences

Many people use to talk about Africa as one place: "Have you been in Africa?" "I don't like African food"... as if Africa was all the same, as if the culture, landscapes, gastronomy... was homogenous all across Africa...

Nothing further from reality!

The people

Africa is not a continent of cultural highlights, big monuments, architecture, temples... as you can see in other continents as Asia, Europe, America...

The highlights of Africa are normally its people and its landscapes. Both still (or almost) unspoiled, wide open, friendly and unforgettable.
Massai, Kenya
