OK, you won't buy many fresh food, but anyway, the place deserves a visit, not only for the local ambiance, but also for the architecture of the place and the nice coloured glass. Spanish writer Vazquez Montalban, known as a gourmet, came here daily to buy fresh products...

At the Pi Square, in the Gothic Quarter ther is a street market, I think is on saturdays only, where you can find some local products, mainly gastronomy: local cheeses, ham, honey... products produced in Catalonia, in the countryside.

It is part of a big chain, with shops in Madrid and other european capitals. You can use the bonus of BCN in Madrid and viceversa. There is another one in BCN at Ronda d'Universitat.
What To Buy: Open 08-2:30 in the morning, 7 days a week

This huge Mall is located by the sea, near the "Moll de Fusta" Harbour. Here you can find many shops and restaurants, is very nice in summer to have lunch by a terrace here. By night they have discos and clubs here as well, though the ambiance and lack of security make it a not very advisable place!

Name of Shop: La Boqueria / Markets
In the central sidewalk of Las Ramblas Avenue, nearly in front of La Boqueria market, you can find many street stalls selling birds and other pets. Is a nice place to walk with kids, as it's like a small zoo, with a wide variety of animals, from parrots to lizards, hamsters, dogs...

I'm really looking forward to my first visit there later this year. Great tips! | ronaldpk Fri Nov 17, 2006 22:03 UTC You've missed to mention the 13 geese of Santa Eulallia. For me, they were the cutest surprise in the Gothic Quarter! | knips Tue Oct 10, 2006 18:25 UTC Seems to be the square of the final scene of "The Perfume", where Jean-Baptiste Grenouille perfumes himself so irresistible that he's been eaten up by the people at the place. |
