Getting TO/AROUND: There is a cheap (3,45 euros) and convenient bus from the El Prat airport to the centre. It leaves every 15 minutes and takes you there in 30-40 minutes. From the airport, look for the blue sign of "Aerobus". From the centre, take it at Placa de Catalunya (in front of El Corte Ingles), Sants Railway Station or Placa de Espanya.

Getting TO/AROUND: This lovely old style wooden tram goes up the Tibidabo Hill from "Avinguda del Tibidabo" FGC stop to the funicular that goes to the top. As the tram goes at snail pace up the hill, you can admire some of the beautiful houses built in both sides of the street. 2,90 euros return ticket. 10 minutes.

Getting TO/AROUND: That day I had the intention to go up the hill to see the Tibidabo Theme Park. BUT it was raining cats and dogs as I woke up... Anyway I tried: I took the metro to "Avinguda del Tibidabo", then took the "Blue Tram" up the middle of the hill... but when I was up there, about to enter the funicular that takes you to the park, it started raining sooooo hard that I changed plans and went down again, as there is no point in going there in a rainy grey day... But anyway, that's the way to go, and I will try in my next visit to BCN :-)

Getting TO/AROUND: These little boats that take you around the BCN harbour (to Montjuic and back) are named "swallows" (golondrinas). You can go in at the harbour, in front of the Colon Statue, at the end of the Ramblas. I didn't, as that day was raining and grey, but on a sunny day they make a nice trip around. 35 minutes, 3.30 euros.

Getting TO/AROUND: In BCN taxis are painted in a distinctive black and yellow colors. I never used one by day, as the transport system here is excellent. But to return at night U might have to use them. If you are around the Gothic Quarter or Las Ramblas, the best place to take a taxi is the Placa de Catalunya. You will see long queues there for taxis at 2-3 am. Expect to wait 15-20 minutes for yours!

Getting TO/AROUND: El Prat is the international airport of BCN. Arriving: It is rather close to the city, there are fequent buses (Aerobus) to town (Pl.Catalunya), that take about 40 minutes. Departing: If you arrive on time, there are a lot of shops and cafes here to spend your time. You could even leave your souvenir shopping for the last minutes, as here you will find some really attractive shops.

I'm really looking forward to my first visit there later this year. Great tips! | ronaldpk Fri Nov 17, 2006 22:03 UTC You've missed to mention the 13 geese of Santa Eulallia. For me, they were the cutest surprise in the Gothic Quarter! | knips Tue Oct 10, 2006 18:25 UTC Seems to be the square of the final scene of "The Perfume", where Jean-Baptiste Grenouille perfumes himself so irresistible that he's been eaten up by the people at the place. |
