Restaurant Name: Terrace at Placa Reial
This restaurant is a rather good option to try typical catalonian food in a nice environment. I went there for lunch, and seated at the terrace they have in an alley at one side of the Placa Reial. They have room inside and upstairs too, but I found it nicer to seat outside and watch the people go by... Most entrees were about 4 euros, and main dishes, about 6 euros.
Favorite Dish: Escalivada amb formatge fos i torradets: 3,81 euros Botifarra amb mongetes saltades: 4,41 euros You can see the pics of these dishes in the next 2 tips.

This moderniste cafe was founded in 1897 and is world famous for its relationship with Picasso when he lived in BCN (he designed a menu and came often to the place). Its name means "4 cats", which is a spanish expression meaning " a few unimportant persons". They serve one of the best coffees of BCN, so is a good option for breakfast, when is not as crowded as in the evenings.

If you want a quick and cheap meal based on baguette style sandwiches, this is your place. This fast food chain offers also good salads. The jamon serrano sandwich is my favourite here...

I'm really looking forward to my first visit there later this year. Great tips! | ronaldpk Fri Nov 17, 2006 22:03 UTC You've missed to mention the 13 geese of Santa Eulallia. For me, they were the cutest surprise in the Gothic Quarter! | knips Tue Oct 10, 2006 17:25 UTC Seems to be the square of the final scene of "The Perfume", where Jean-Baptiste Grenouille perfumes himself so irresistible that he's been eaten up by the people at the place. |
