Getting TO/AROUND: Since May 2007 there is a metro line (8, pink) to get to/from the airport to the centre of town. The ticket is 2 euros (double than normal tickets) and, changing lines you can reach any part of the city.

Getting TO/AROUND: There are mainly 3 ways to get to the city center:
    - Metro: the cheapest. As you go out the gate, turn right till you reach the T2 terminal, where the stop is. From 6:00 to 1:30 at night. 1 Euro (you can buy Metrobus Ticket, 10 trips in Metro or Bus for 6,16 euros). Line 8 stops at AEROPUERTO T4 and at AEROPUERTO T1 T2 T3, depending on where your plane lands.
    - Bus: As you go out the airport, cross the lane after the taxis and look for the bus stop. It takes you to Colon Square, in the center. 2,40 euros. 04:45 to 02:00 at night.
    - Taxis: the most expensive. Around 25 euros to Puerta del Sol, 20 to Chamartin Railway Station, 22 to Plaza de Espana. Check the money they give you back when you pay, they tend to make 'mistakes'...

Getting TO/AROUND: All day hop-on hop-off buses. They offer you 3 different routes to see all Madrid, for 1.600 ptas/day. Explanations in different languages, children free. You can get on at Prado Museum, in front of Ritz Hotel or at Puerta de Alcala (there all the 3 routes coincide), though they have many stops all around Madrid.

    Category: Bus
Getting TO/AROUND: Madrid has a modern & efficient buses net. In bus stops you can see detailed city maps posted (useful even if you're not planning to take a bus) where you can see bus routes. Prices are 1,10 euros for a single journey. You can buy METROBUS, a 10-journeys ticket valid for both bus and metro (at Metro Stations, Tobacco shops, and some press kiosks, 5,20 Euros). Monthly passes, which are also valid on the metro, can be purchased in Estancos where you'll need your DNI card (for Spaniards) or your passport (for non-Spaniards) and a passport-sized photo; they can be shared for travel by more than one person on a journey. From 33,60 euros. The buses run from 6:00am to 23.30pm, after which you will have to rely on night-buses (called 'buhos', meaning owl - see below) or taxis.
BUHOS: if you go out late at night (after midnight), you might need to take one of these night buses. They leave from Cibeles square. They leave every half hour (on the half hour) between midnight and 3:00 am and every hour on the hour between 3:00 am and 6:00 AM.

Getting TO/AROUND: One of the two main train stations in Madrid (the other one is Chamartin). Located in front of the Reina Sofia Museum. Trains for the south (Cordoba, Sevilla, Cadiz, Malaga, Huelva...).
Come with enough time to admire the interior tropical garden (see photo) at the old station building. They've got many kinds of tropical plants as well as turtles and fishes.

Getting TO/AROUND: It is said that 1 of every 10 cars in Madrid is a taxi. And you can see this by just standing in any corner for 1 minute: plenty of taxis will pass by... except when it rains!!
They are painted white with a red diagonal stripe across the front doors. If the green lamp on top is light they are free.
The meter starts at 1.05 euros and there are extra charges for:
    - Each bag 0.31 euro
    - Holidays 0.90 euro
    - Nights 0.90 euro
    - Dogs (other than guide dogs) 0.90 euro
    - Airport (departures & arrivals) 2.41 euro
The easiest way to take them is just on the street, but here are some telephones just in case:
    91 405 55 00 / 91 447 51 80 / 91 445 90 08

Getting TO/AROUND: Buses run normally till 23.30pm. From that hour till 6:00am you'll have to go to CIBELES square if you wanna take a bus. From there leave 20 radial lines (every 30 minutes till 3:00, every hour from 3 to 6am) to the main cardinal points. Take a look at the signs on the stop to see if anyone goes your way.
