This old palace near the Puerta del Sol was recently opened as a disco, keeping the main structure of the house (aisles, high ceilings, wooden floors...) Before 23:00h, the entrance is free. After that hour, 9 euros (15 on weekends). On Thursdays a lot of foreign students living in Madrid meet there, so you can speak english that night. Tuesdays, salsa. Wednesdays, tango.

Casa Antonio is one of those typical old taverns of Madrid, where you can have some wines/beers and some "tapas" too. In front of the entrance you can see a sign saying "No Coke or Soft Drinks served"... Founded in 1880.

Nightlife Spot: General
Mybe you have heard somewhere about the "movida" in Madrid. Well, this tip migh also be put in the "Historical tips", as it was far away... Back in the 1975-1985 decade, after Franco's Dictatorship, a group of young madrilians started to gather at night in clubs as ROCK-OLA, EL SOL... and make fresh new songs, cinema, paintings... These were wild years, after the repression of Franco, following the punks steps. Out of all this came out artists that nowadays are part of the establishment, as Radio Futura, Mecano, Pedro Almodovar, Antonio Banderas, Alaska... I still remember that nights at RockOla, those were my first days in Madrid and I really had a good time :-))

This old style cafe with wooden & mirror walls is a quiet relaxed place for a coffee break in the afternoon (open 13-2.30am) or for a jazz session at night. During live shows the drinks are a bit more expensive, but the entrance is free.
