  • This new touris card is brand new, I just heard of it.
You can buy it for 1day (28 euros), 2 (42 euros) or 3(55 euros) and it allows you:
    - Free admission in 40 major museums (including Prado, Thyssen, Reaina Sofia, Royal Palace...)
    - 1 day of the hop on-off "Madrid Vision" bus that takes you around the city.
    - A guided tour "Walk through old Madrid" on saturdays
    - 5 rides in bus/metro.
    - A guide with city info.
    - Discounts at shops...

    You can buy it at:
    - Tourist Office (plaza Mayor, 3)
    - "Madrid Vision" buses between Prado and Ritz Hotel.
    - At www.madridcard.com
    - At the phone (34) 917 130 444

They have a web page with all the info. It is interesting to see even if you are not gonna buy the card:

Here are some of its highlights (from south to north):
    - Plaza de Cibeles, Correos (Central Post Office)
    - Plaza de Colón, National Library
    - Open air sculpture museum (at the crossing of Eduardo Dato, Metro Ruben Dario)
    - Natural History Museum

    - Azca busuiness Center
    - Plaza de Castilla and KIO Towers

  • This beautiful building located in the Cibeles Square houses the central Post Office of Spain. If you desperately need some stamps on sunday, this is the place to go.

  • AZCA is an area of modern buildings between Castellana Avenue and Orense street, by the north of Madrid. Here you can find the only "skycrappers" (LOL) of Madrid... and some nice shopping places around "El Corte Ingles" and Orense street.

  • The 3rd Museum of the Museums Triangle, along with the Prado and Thyssen, this former hospital houses the permanent modern spanish art (20th century) and some interesting temporary exhibitions. The transparent elevators at its fron façade offer a good view of that part of Madrid.
    FREE entrance on sunday mornings.

  • This recently opened park is a bit outside Madrid, on the way to the airport, but if you have a spare day and want to take a walk and see some modern sculptures, try it.
It has long open avenues, very few trees (don't go in august, terrible hot!) and open spaces, lakes, rivers, a boat, a little train to take a quick look, kites in the windy days...
To get there, take the Metro towards the airport and stop in the previous stop (Campo de las Naciones)

  • Madrid is a very "walkable" city. The center is rather small and the area called "Madrid de los Austrias" (from Plaza Mayor towards the south west) deserves a calm walk around, looking up to admire the old buildings and quiet streets...
