Santiago de Compostela is a medium sized town located in Galicia, in the northwest corner of Spain. It is famous worldwide for being the last stop of the catholic pilgrimmage "Road of Saint Jacques", that joins different points of Europe to this spanish city. Apart from religious motivations, Santiago deserves a visit for its architecture, gastronomy and landscapes, an a good way to reach the city is to follow part of the "road" and arrive here by foot from any nearby village that is on that route. |
| | My visit I didn't come here for the Saint, though. I have a cousin living here, so we came mainly to visit her. Just a weekend, and it was RAINING all day long, non-stop. This was unconvenient but in fact is the most characteristic weather in this part of Spain, so it was charming in a way. |
The Cathedral The Cathedral is the main attraction here in Santiago, the main building and also the place where pilgrims have to go to reach the "finish" line of their road. It is located in the main square, "Plaza del Obradoiro", all surrounded by wonderful stone buildings that deserve a good look around. | | |

breughel Sat Nov 25, 2006 10:15 UTC Buonas dias, Your tip on the politically incorrect Santiago "Matamoros" made me smile and develop (cautiously) the military figure of St James in my intro page on Santiago de Compostella. | b1bob Sun May 14, 2006 15:46 UTC I wish I had gone inside the cathedral when I was there in 1993. |
