On top of a hill | Oranges, white walls and towers |
Vejer de la Frontera is a nice little white village located on hooked on top of a hill near the coast, in the Spanish province of Cadiz. Here you will find the quiet pace of a typical andalusian town without the crowds of tourists (so far!!) you will find in the Mediterranean side of Andalucia (Marbella...).
Its moorish past is still preserved in some walls, patios and local customs (pastries...) |
| | White walls The walls in Vejer (as in many south villages) are painted with lime every year to keep them pure white. The put the new layer just on top of the old, so in some walls you can see the traces of the many layers shaping the corners soft, just like snow layers, giving the walls a feel of cotton... |
| | Near Africa Vejer is in the southernmost part of Spain, near Africa. You can get here from Cadiz, or from Malaga, the nearest capitals, and is just 1 hour away from Gibraltar. |
