From the 13th - 15th centuries, Venice was one of the most luxurious cities in Europe, and a great trading empire with the Middle East. Hometown of Marco Polo, it has been refugee and inspiration for artists as Lord Byron, Casanova, Thomas Mann, Marcel Proust, Federico Fellini, Woody Allen... Venice is like a huge open-air museum, though it's still a living city. To notice that you have to go far from San Marco and walk by the silent tiny streets, to hear its inner life, the people that survive amongst the millions of tourists. Loose yourself in Venice for an afternoon to really discover it!. You can always stop a gondola to go back to your Hotel... |
| | Riva degli Schiavoni This famous landmark is the bank of the Grand Canal, from San Marco to the Gardens of the Biennale. It's a rather crowded touristic place, but a nice walk too, mostly in the evenings, when the sun goes down and it's not so hot... |
No cars!!! This obvious fact (Venice is crossed by the water all over) is not easily described, and was highly appreciated by me. The feeling of not hearing cars, seeing traffic jams, avoiding parked cars is hard to tell, U have to live it, enjoy it! | | |

| Pros: | "No cars at all!!!" | | Cons: | "So many tourists all over..." |
