A backpackers classic, in the very very center (20 meters from Djena el Fnaa square). Simple but clean. 15 euros double, 4 euros for sleeping on the roof. Buffet in the evenings for 70 euros.

BIVOUACS (Ouarzazate) Bivouacs are typical desert tents where you can sleep in the desert under the stars. There are several prices, but they are normally expensive as it's a touristic atraction. Societe Bivouacs du Desert. Tel. 044 887302/ le.ouarzazate@wanadoo.net.ma www.net-tensif.com/ouarzazate< /a>

A dream cozy hotel, really a background for the '1001 Nights'. All the rooms are different, each one has its own name and personality (have a look at the web page). They have a swimming pool for clients but is 30 minutes outside Marrakesh (free shuttle).

This wonderful hotel is a real legend, probably the best one in north Africa. I couldn't afford to stay in, but we went for a drink at one of the bars at night, and also took a walk around the woooonderful gardens.
Unique Qualities: Better go with your best suit, I wasn't allowed to enter long ago, the first time I visited Marrakesh as backpacker!!

stewarth99 Thu Jul 24, 2008 12:16 UTC Remember that the area of the palmeries is a flood plain. Every 70 years or so. So those expensive houses, hotels and golf courses will all be wiped out one day. Just pray for the residents and workers there at the time. Mozzies are fearsome in season. | xuessium Sat Dec 22, 2007 16:21 UTC Wonderful map and tips for "A Day @ Djema El Fnaa". Just what I'm looking for. Cheers! | oceania26 Fri Aug 17, 2007 19:29 UTC Good tips for bargaining...that's what I usually and it works well :-) | angiebabe Sat Jul 7, 2007 22:45 UTC totally agree! i love marrakech miles ahead of Fez - of course its all rather great - but Marrakech... and your pages are a great look-see too thanks!Zagoras a long way from Marrakech though....! |
