279 Av. Mohamed V (in front of the Koutubia). Tel: (212)44 440081.
A nice alternative for traditional morocan cuisine, this italian restaurant has a beautiful terrace facing the Koutubia, not far from Djema el Fnaa. Touristic menu for 120 Dh.

  • LA KASBAH (Ait Ben Haddou)
In the modern part of Ait Ben Haddou, just in front of the main parking, as you arrive. This hotel has a restaurant in the next building, with a wonderful view to the Kasbah, and a nice staff. Touristic menu for 100 Dh.
To get here from Ouarzazate, turn right at km. 23 in the road to Marrakesh.

  • KSAR ES SAOUSSAN
3, Derb Chorfa el Messaoudyenne. Tel.: 04 4440632.
To get there, follow Fatima Zohra St from the Koutubia and turn right at Sidi el Yamami St. Some 100 mt after the arch, there is a sign on the wall. A black man in a red gown will be waiting there for you, to take you to the restaurant through some narrow alleys: very mysterious, indeed!
This old mansion has been wonderfully restored and offers 3 fix menus with increasing prices (300, 400 & 500 Dh) and amount of food. If you eat normally, a small menu is more than enough (even for 2, I think!!). It includes a cocktail, wine, dessert and tea.

Street Vendors: EAT AT THE STALLS
    After sunset...
  • Tip Rating:

  • EAT AT THE STALLS
After sunset (19:00) the Djema ekl Fnaa Square gets full of street stalls where you can eat a great variety of local food. There is some delicious food being served there, and terribly cheap, but I must admit there are stalls where I wouldn't seat too happily!

  • Tip Rating:

  • CAFE ARGANA
At the left as you enter the Square from the Koutubia. One of the best terraces to see the activity in the Djema el Fnaa Square. The 1st floor is the best terrace, from the 2nd you can't see much, though is quieter. If you wanna go there to see the sunset, go in advance, as it gets really crowded in the evenings. 75% of the 1st floor terrace is only for dinner, so you'll get more chances to get a place if you go there to eat that if you only want to have a tea.

  • Tip Rating:

  • DAR MIMOUN
Riad el-Zitoun el Kedim. 1, derb Ben Amrane. To get there, take the narrow street close to CTM Hotel and Cremerie Toubkal (right corner of the Square) and turn left in the 4th alley. You'll find a nice wooden door with the sign of the restaurant.
This charming old mansion is an excellent choice for lunch/dinner if you visit the Djema el Fnaa Square. Not the classical tourist trap, but a very authentic place. You can eat at the patio, surrounded by plants and orange trees. Reservation required (044 443348). Menus for 100 Dh.
The only disadvantage is that the service is teeeeribly sloooow!!!

Remember that the area of the palmeries is a flood plain. Every 70 years or so. So those expensive houses, hotels and golf courses will all be wiped out one day. Just pray for the residents and workers there at the time. Mozzies are fearsome in season.
