    • Kids may look adorable and cute, but be careful. I was once seated on a mosque patio drawing when a group of kids arrived. They started looking at the drawings, then asked for pen… then a few more arrived and surrounded me. I had my rucksack by my side, but was paying not much attention to it. In a while I felt opressed by so many kids around and decided to go. As I started to walk I noticed that 2 of the zips of my bag had been opened. I didn’t miss anything, but could have been worse…

    • If you walk by the western zone of Sultanhamet and take by those narrow streets you will often find many ruined wooden houses like this. Some of them are being restored, but the ones left are totally abandoned.

    • In Turkey is easy to become a millionaire. The smallest banknote is 1 million liras. So is easy to have to pay 5 or 6 millions for a taxi ride, 1 million for a tea, 40 millions for a room…
    BUT be very careful when paying: as the notes are so similar, you might take a 5.000.000 for a 500.000 and get mistaken when paying at a taxi… Count the ceros 2 or 3 times!!!

    • Topkapi Gates are the first gates you will find to enter the Topkapi Area inside the Walls. They were huge for its time,but as you see now they are a bit “tight” for some vehicles.
    So, before passing through always check if there is any bus coming, as there will be no room for both you and the bus… and he is stronger!

    • When you come from the airport by tram to Sultanahmet, you must make a transfer at Zeytinburnu. You will have to get down at that stop, GO OUT of the station, cross the bridge and ENTER AGAIN at the other line station. So you will have to buy another jetton (1 million liras).
