Terraces in the street - Istanbul

Terraces in the street

Nevizhade Street

This popular street is filled with terraces, cafes and restaurants. Is a good alternative to Cicek Pasaji and Istiklal id these are full. Nevizhade uses to be full to, but there’s more place here. There are terraces even at the roofs, from where you can have a nice view of Istanbul. At number 27 (3rd floor) you can find the “Secret garden”(Gizli ) a nice café with wonderful views.

Comparison: least expensive

Directions: Nevizhade is parellel to Istiklal between Balik and Yesil Cam Streets, in front of the Galatasaray Lycee.

A filling meal - Istanbul

A filling meal

Meat sandwiches

This minced meat sandwiches are really tasty and delicious but are not for a diet!! The man at the stand will put a big portion of all you see in the photo into that bread at the right. For me, that was a full meal… and I’m big. Add a tea, some turlish delights and a nice view of the Galata Bridge from the Eminonu piers fences and you will have a nice cheap Istanbul meal!!

Fishermen upstairs, Cafes downstairs - Istanbul

Fishermen upstairs, Cafes downstairs

Galata Bridge cafes

A good option for an evening tea or a dinner are the many cafes and bars below the Galata Bridge. All that bridge is filled with terraces from where you can have a wonderful view of the Eminonu Pier and the Topkapi, with all the ferries coming and going. Specially nice for the sunsets, you can have a wonderful view of the Istanbul skyline…

A meat column - Istanbul

A meat column

Shish Kebabs

This meat & vegetables sandwiches in a round bread are typical turkish “take away” food. The man at the stand will cut you the meat from the column, add some salad, tomato, sauces… and put all this mixed into an “envelope” bread!! Delicious, but take many napkins, it’s really difficult to eat that, LOL
You can find these everywhere, this pic was taken on the one at Eminonu pier, building number 3.

The terraces - Istanbul

The terraces

Hoca Cami Street

This little alley offers a great variety of local restaurants, with nice terraces on the street. Is a bit apart from the traffic, so is nice, specially for dinner. In these restaurants you don’t have menu, you go to the kitchen and poin to the dishes you wanna eat.
To get there, take Ankara Caddesi from Sirkeci Railway Station, turn left at Ebusuud Caddesi, and take the first at the left, towards the Hoca mosque.

Lunch at the pier - Istanbul

Lunch at the pier

Eat at the streets

In Eminonu, by the old Galata Bridge, by the place from where the ferries depart, there are a couple of wooden boats, where you can find fresh fish cooked right there, on the boat, and served in big bread pieces with tomato. A really wonderful experience!!!

mmmm... - Istanbul

mmmm...

Fish sandwiches at Eminonu

At the Eminonu pier, near the Galata Bridge, you can find a couple of little boats that sell fish sandwichs with tomate. The fish is fresh, just fished and they cook it (grill) right there. They cost 1 euro each, and you can buy some drink in one of the many bars by the ticket office. I had mine with a hot (bloody hot) tea, standing on a fence looking at the rush of Galata Bridge…

The main entrance - Istanbul

The main entrance

Orient Express Restaurant

Founded in 1890, this restaurant is one of the few remains of the golden age of Sirkeci Railway Station, when it was the ending point of the famous “Orient Express” train.
Now it has been refurbished and decorated with all kind of memorabilia about Agatha Christie and the 30s. I haven’t had lunch there, just saw it from outside but seemed a quiet fresh place for lunch out of the rush of Eminonu Area.
