  • This is what they serve tou in bars as cusquean breakfast, though I doubt that average cusquean have THIS for breakfast...
    It consists of:
    - Liquid chocolate
    - Papaya juice
    - A piece of bread with butter and jam

I just loved the contrast of the cold papaya juice and the hot chocolate!!

  • This is the typical beer of the region. In other regions of Peru they had different beers
    - Lima: Cristal
    - Iquitos: San Juan
It came in huge bottels of nearly 1 liter.

  • This is a very nice restaurant with an interior patio and terrace, where you can have typical cusquean dishes. I went there on a sunday and there were many local families doing their sunday meal in the terrace, as well as a few tourists.
Is a bit expensive for the average here in Cuzco, but not really overpriced. I had a pork dish and a Cusqueña beer for 20 soles (6,5 USD).

    Local eating (Central Market)

  • At the rear part of the Central Market you will find an area with many popular food stalls, some serving breakfasts, some for ceviches, some for meat. They have the dishes just there, in trays, so if your spanish is not so good, you just point at what seems attractive and you'll get a generous dish of that. Prices are shown in big signs on top.
I had a soup, fish ceviche and a chaufa rice for 1,5 USD.

BTW, I had no stomach problems afterwards ;-))))

Hi Joaquin. Nice little page on Cuzco. I will go there one day when I have $$$$ and also overcome my fears of getting Soroche. :)

Man that sounds awesome. I could go for that pain. About the coca leaves. Do you feel an actual numbness? Do you feel it helps in the altitude?
    andrea.d Sun Jan 15, 2006 18:02 UTC
Wow, great page! I don't think i would be able to handle the altitude though... But with a little coca leaves help? Who knows :)
