The Witches Guest House
  • Tip Rating:

  • This backpackers guesthouse is located in Miraflores district, south of Lima.
I arrived in Lima from Iquitos late in the evening, so I just chose in my LP the cheapest place in Miraflores, as I planned to leave early the next day, and just wanted a bed to sleep in. Here they have beds in dormitories of 6 for 5 USD (most hostels ask for 10 USD for a dormitory), so I just told the taxi to take me there.
It is a rather simple, basic place. It reminded me the University dormitories. High ceilings, naked walls, carpet on the floor. But the bed itself was OK, the shared showers had hot water and so.

Unique Qualities: I noticed that all the signs and announcements were in spanish, english and yiddish, so I guess this is s popular place amongst israeli people...

Barranco´s Backpackers Inn: Barranco's Backapackers Inn
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • After looking around the Backpackers Hostels in Miraflores, I took a bus to check this place in Barranco, another area southernmost.
This hostel happened to be in an excellent location, by the seaside, near a busy square with many v¡bars and restaurants, but really quiet and peaceful at night.
They have only dormitories, with ensuite WC and hot shower (shared for the 8 persons on the dormitory), and a dining room & kitchen.

Unique Qualities: They offer transfer to/from the airport for a little less than a normal taxi (10 USD instead of 14)

    Dormitory bed: 10 USD

    Hotel Bolivar
  • Tip Rating:
  • This is one of the classical Hotels in Lima, and one of the oldest. Might be a bit old fashioned now, but I liked it. I didn't sleep here (a bit above my budget) but went for a visit and had breakfast at its delicious terrace. The lobby and the stairs are great and all that 19th century style is simply wonderful!

    Hotel España
  • Tip Rating:

  • This old classical peruvian hotel is one of the best options if you want to stay on a budget in central Lima. It is located in a traditional Lima house, just a few meter from Plaza de Armas. Inside the hotel there are a labyrinth of rooms. I was given a room ON THE TOP TERRACE, just at the very top of the 3rd floor and, the first time, it took me about 15 minutes to get there, climbing stairs, taking wrong corridors, crossing patios with bars terraces, full of plants, crossing from one terrace to another... but it was worth the effort, as the views were great and all surrounded by plants, you could see all Lima roofs.
I reserved via internet in advance, as I wanted them to pick me up at the aiport, but they came late, so I finally took the Urbanito bus, which is rather convenient too.
The room was simple but clean. Showers outside.

Unique Qualities: 6 USD for a single room.
At walking distance for any touristic place in historical Lima centre.

I recently visited & fell in love with the Barranco & Miraflores neighborhoods. I'm interested in buying some books on resid. architecture of these areas. Do you know if there are any available & where 2 purchase? Thanks!
