Wayllabamba campsite
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The first campsite on the trail is Wayllabamba (3100 m - 10137ft). There is no hot water, but there are showers with cold water, WC and a tiny shop for candies... Nice landscape.

Unique Qualities: You normally sleep in tents of 2, with a sleeping bg and a thin matress. I was travelling alone, so a guy of the group slept with me. That was only the first night, as on the 2nd day he felt ill (altitude sickness) and had to be taken back to Cuzco by several porters.
Poor guy but lucky me! :-))

    Paqaymayu Campsite
  • Tip Rating:

  • This is the second campsite. You arrive here after the hardest climbing, after passing the highest peak and you are really tired when you get here. It id also the highest camp so is the coldest. It has nice views, 2 WC (cold showers) and you can see Runkurukay ruins from here.

    Wiñaywayna Campsite
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This is the last and the best. It has a little bar and hot showers!! though you have to pay 5 soles for the hot showers and wait a long queue. There is a bar and disco where groups use to celebrate their last night dancing. But don't saty out till late, as next day you have to wake up early (5am)!! :-)

    Aguas Calientes
  • Tip Rating:
  • If you do a regular Inca Trail you don't sleep in Aguas Calientes, as you take the train back to Cusco in the afternoon of the 4th day and sleep in Cuzco.
BUT if you want to see Machu Picchu a little longer, you may tell the agency to get you a ticket for the following day train, so you can sleep in Aguas Calientes and have an extra day to visit MP. BUT you will have to pay the entrance (30 USD) again!

Great pics and tips Richard. I liked that you had a picture of an orchid as well on your page. Well done!

I have been wanting to go on the inca trail for many years now, but could never stump up enough cash. Your page has made me want to go even more so! Will definitely be saving my pennies for it now!

Am doing a charity challenge trek on the Inca trail in September and have never done anything like this before. Your tips are excellent. Thank you
