For most of the people visiting Puno, this is a basecamp for visiting the Titicaca lake, the Uros islands, Taquile, or even the funerary towers of Sillustani. Located in the Peruvian western shore of the lake, is the biggest town around the lake, and a stopover on the way from Cuzco to Bolivia. |
| | But if you have a free afternoon here, there's a few things to do in Puno, wandering around its colonial streets, visiting the cathedral, buying some excellent wool, or eating at one of its many popular restaurants. |
Wander What I enjoyed most in Puno was wandering around its little streets with all those interesting small shops and popular restaurants. I even went to a hairdresser and got my hair cur for less than a dollar! | | |

stevemt Fri May 18, 2007 06:16 UTC This interested me. I searched & think It is probably the Peruvian Army's "Region Militar del Sur" 4th Mountain Brigade stationed at Puno. You may have been lucky taking the photo and not getting harassed for it :) | ryuhome Wed Sep 28, 2005 17:40 UTC Nice to see someone who took the time to create a page for this mostly ignored city. Interesting stuff. Thanks! | acemj Sat Jul 2, 2005 13:34 UTC Strolling the streets is one of my favorite holiday activities too! How was the cuy? I have to try that someday . . . | tiger9090a Sun Jun 12, 2005 14:09 UTC Good overview of Puno. I wouldn't have dared to try the Guinea pig dish though... |
