Titicaca is considered the highest lake in the world that can be sailed. It has witnessed many civilizations, from the aymaras to the Incas. It is located in between Peru and Bolivia and has some interesting islands to visit. |
| | The most touristic places around the lake are: PERUVIAN SIDE: Puno, Uros island and Amantani and Taquile islands. BOLIVIAN SIDE: Copacabana and Sun island. |
To visit the Peruvian side you may go to PUNO and from there take boats or daytrips to Uros and Taquile. You can sleep in Taquile island, with locals, at their homes.
To visit the Bolivian side, go to COPACABANA and there you can take a ferry to "Isla del Sol". There are hostels there to spend the night and restaurants. | | |

Sue08080 Fri Jun 23, 2006 11:35 UTC Fascinating place...maybe someday. Is the watercolor on your homepage of this place? | andrea.d Sun Jan 15, 2006 17:49 UTC Interesting place and very nice page! | Interlingua Fri Jan 6, 2006 22:46 UTC My guide leader made it very clear exactly how much we'd have to pay for the boat trip. It was a little touristy, but still fun. None of us felt that we'd been cheated or taken advantage of. | acemj Sun Jul 10, 2005 22:33 UTC It's funny how basic the living is here and yet they have solar panels for TV!! What would they do without totora? Sounds like it is the basis for everything! |
