I didn't sleep here, but walking around the centre I noticed in this street there were many cheap hostels, backpackers style, and a lot of agencies offering trips to El Salar de Uyuni and so. So I think this should be a popular place for backpackers...

Here you can see my room at Republica. At the left there were huge windows through which all the light of the patio came in. But it had dark courtains for the mornings too!

Hostal Republica

This beautiful old Bolivian house was once the home of a President of the Republic. It has 2 shady patios and all the rooms open to the courtyard, so is very quiet and nice.
Rooms are simple but clean and the WC (shared in my case) was nice with hot shower and all that stuff.
They have internet connection free for guests and a pleasant bar.
