  • Since I first arrived to HCMC, I felt curious of those chinese bakeries, with all those red boxes in the windows, and all those pastry things with strange names...
So 1 day I decided to try. I bought one of those mysterious red boxes, and see what came out!! (see pic), a cutty little pig, with eyes and mouth!!
I first thought of keeping it as a souvenir, but too difficult to carry, and I was hungry too... so I had to "sacrify" it... delicious, try it if U have the chance ;-)) Kind of sweet marzipan...

    Local Customs: Chinese Bakeries (II)
  • Tip Rating:
  • These are the shops I was talking about. So colourful and mysterious... and all the same all over Saigon. They seemed to sell the same kind of stuff, a kind of marzipan, sweet, with a hard surface... delicious!!
You will find many in Cholon, the Chinese district, but also in many places around town.

    People: Beauty faces
  • Tip Rating:
  • Vietnamese people have nice delicate aspect. I saw this little girl in a traditional music show during a Mekong Delta organised tour. She and her sister sang traditional vietnamese songs during a morning break for a tea at a local farm.

  • Being a National Hero and father of the Nation, I was expecting to see portraits of HCM all over Vietnam, in every shop, corner and public building.
But surprisingly, the cult of the personality doesn't sem to go so far here, and I just saw a few portraits in some govermrnment buildings... oh, and in every bank note too!!

I had to pause for a moment when i saw this pic "a street of old Saigon". I have to say i recognize this familiar building. This shot really takes me back to Saigon years and years back then since i left VNam. Wonderful pics.
