Getting TO/AROUND: From tha airport you can take a bus to get to the centre. There are mainly 3: - A1 to West End (Thanon Silom) - A2 to Khao San Road. - A3 goes to Sukhumvit area. As you clear customs, look for the Airport Bus signs, buy the ticket (100B) at the stall and get on the (mini)bus. It will take 60-90 minutes, depending on traffic jams.

Getting TO/AROUND: This modern open air subway net is definetly the best way to avoid the Bangkok traffic jams!! BUT it only goes by the modern (east) part of the city, so U might have to connect with buses or tuctuc or boats if you are going to the touristic old center. It's got (so far) 2 lines, which cross in Central Station (Siam). You can buy individual tickets or 1 day tickets. Prices depend on the distances, running from 10 to 40 bahts (1 USD= 40 Bahts). 1 day passes cost 100 Bahts. It is very convenient if you are staying at Sukhumvit Area (Nana Station). From there you can reach the river and take a boat directly to the center (Royal Palace and so).

Getting TO/AROUND: From Jim Thompson House I took a water bus along the narrow canal till Wat Rajanadda, near the Democracy Monument. As you leave Jim Thompson, turn left till the canal, go right till the "bus stop" (near the bridge) and wait there. You have to take the boat that goes towards the left. Go in, and a man will come for you to pay (20 bahts I think). It is a nice experience, as you can see the backyards of many houses. Be careful with the water, as the boat goes bloody fast!!

Getting TO/AROUND: If you are looking for budget travels, buses to Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, cheap flights to the islands, round flights to different cities of SE Asia (BKK - PhnomPenh - Saigon - Hanoi - Vientiane for about 300 USD)... come to Khao San Road! Look, compare, and then choose. Most of them are similar, just look at temporal offers. Normally, if you want to book a flight for, let's say Bangkok-Saigon, it will be much cheaper to do it from KSR than to book it from your home country...

Getting TO/AROUND: If you decide to go on your own to Cambodia by bus, you will have to leave from Morchit Bus Station, in the north part of the city, near the Chatuchak Market. There you catch a bus that takes youto the Cambodian border in 4 hours (164 Bahts). There is no direct bus to Siem Reap (Angkor Wat). You have to reach Aranyaprathet, then a moto to take you to the border and after crossing the border take a private taxi (you can share it with other travelers) to Siem Reap. You can find detailed info on this trip at the website "Tales of Asia" (see link below).

Getting TO/AROUND: The cheapest way to get to Angkor Wat temples (Cambodia) from Bangkok is to take a bus from Khao San Road. There are many travel agencies running minibuses there. Nat Guest House (by the middle of the street) is a good one. It may cost you about 2-3 USD, but will take you almost the whole day. The bus leaves early in the morning (no night bus, the border is closed), gets to the border around 1 pm, then it takes about 1-2 hours for the whole group to pass the customs. Another 4 hours to Siem Reap. When you get there, the bus will take you directly to the guesthouse they recommend. You may either just stay there, or go down, take a taxi and go to your own.

Getting TO/AROUND: There are daily buses from Khao San Road directly to Laos (Vientiane) leaving in the evening, and arriving in the early morning. They are modern 2 storey buses with video, music, WC... For about 6 USD you get the transportation, border crossing guide with the group, and the dinner included. You can book it at any guesthouse or travel agency, Nat Guest House is one of the classic ones.

Getting TO/AROUND: Taxis in Bangkok are cheap and convenient, though traffic jams make them a bit slow. Most of them have A/C. There was a time when none had taximeter, so U had to negotiate the fare BEFORE... but now most of them do. Anyway, look for the Taximeter sign on top to be sure. If you are going a long distance (airport, bus station...) it might be interesting 4 U to tell the driver to go by one of the many Bangkok Highways. This way you will go faster, though remember that YOU will have to pay the highway tolls (40 Bahts) apart!!

Getting TO/AROUND: Bangkok International Airport is located in the north, outside the city. If you have ATM card, you don't really have to change dollars on arrival, you can simply withdraw some pocket moneyfrom any cashier. There is no BTS metro to the airport. You will have to take a taxi or one of the 3 lines of buses going to the centre.

Getting TO/AROUND: When you arrive to the river piers, there are several kinds of boats: 1.- The touristic boats. More expensive, with loudspeakers comments, less stops at touristic places. 2.- Normal boats, locals, with many stops, cheaper. They have blue roofs 3.- Boats JUST TO CROSS to the other shore, those with the red roof, don't be mistaken
