  • This area in the east of BKK is a very convinient zone to look for medium-cheap accomodation. Not as famous as Khao San Road, is obviously less crowded and not so noisy. here you can find medium size-class hotels (Atlanta...), as well as cheap classy pensions (Suk 11) and good restaurants (Cabbages and Condoms). There are many internet cafes, and souvenir shops too.

It is very well communicated by BTS (Nana Station) and the Airport bus A3 leaves you right here in less than 30 minutes!!!

    Suk11

  • This wooden thai style hostel is one of the best values in town. Cheap and clean, all the interior is decorated in wood. And is located in a rather nice and lively area, Sukhumvit, with plenty of restaurants and cafes.
To get from the airport, take the A3 airport bus (100B) and get down at Soi 11 in Sukhumvit Road. Walk to the SevenEleven and you will see a wooden house with a grren garden.
    I paid 500B for a single ensuite with A/C.

    Accomodation at Khao San Road
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • This little street near the Royal Palace is a real Mecca of any good backpacker

Khao San Road has a hundreds of cheap friendly and reasonably clean hostels and guesthouses. Take a walk around and choose any of them as they seem to offer the same, simple rooms with fan... and a lot of nifgt FUN!!!

BUT if you really want to sleep better go somewhere else, like Sukhumvit Area...

  • If you decide to stay in Khao San Road, one of the best (and oldest) backpackers place is Nat Guest House. It is located right in the middle of the street.
It is a very popular place with a nice open restaurant to have lunch or just a beer and internet conections.
They show american videos in the TV.

Unique Qualities: Double rooms cost 160 Baht per night.

  • My friend alza recommended me this old classic hotel in Sukhumvit area.
So I went to have a look, but unfortunately it was full. It is an old retro. In its leaflets it says to have "the oldest unadulterated hotel lobby in Thailand". And it seems so! (look at the pic).
It has a nice small swimming pool at the backyard (you can see it if you cross the lobby and go through the door) with a cozy garden.
I saw a room, the cheapest, in the uppermost floor (6 USD) and they were "too simple and old fashioned", but I have heard that the suites (32 USD) are a really good value

  • For real oriental luxury in Bangkok, stay at the Oriental Hotel.

If you just wanna visit or have breakfast or a snack on the river terrace, you better go have a shower and wera your best suit. I tried to enter "as a tourist" (T-Shirt and so) and they didn't let me in!!!

But if you go through, sit and watch the long tail boats speed by. Look at the ferries on this hustling and bustling river.

Can somebody tell me if the train from Bangkok to Aranyaprateth (Cambodian border) drives on Sunday at 0555h? Thanks a lot, ciao, Joe

You're two off on the Skytrain stops. Nana station is a pretty long walk to Sukhumvit Soi 24. Correct stop is Phrom Phong.
