The rushing orient

A delicate noisy city

Orchids
What amazed me of Bangkok was its 2 opposite faces. In the outside is a noisy, polluted, crazy, violent city... traffic jams, people jams, high buildings, heat, humidity.
But as you leave the big avenues and come into the suks (alleys) you find a quiet, peaceful, intimate, delicate city, where you can find these orchids around a corner, individual shrines, private amazing gardens...
In a tuctuc

August 2003

This year I have returned to Bangkok and I still find it a fantastic city. My first impression as I got out of the plane was Heat and Humidity. And after entering the city center: traffic chaos. And after a while under the monsoon rain: will it ever stop raining? LOL
Old Tuctucs are my favourites. After a tired day walking you sit in the back, relax and start the adventure of wriggling between cars and buses in an incredible hability show!! Wow!

Metropolis

These elevated railways of the BTS have always reminded me the movie "Metropolis" (Fritz Lang) or the more recent "The 5th element" (Luc Besson), with its many levels of vehicles, some on the ground, some under, some above...
